TWENTYSEVENTH DAY – WEDNESDAY 4TH AUGUST
Left early for Greenant River and Tjaetaba Falls. We walked from the river to the falls. It was spectacular scenery and diverse vegetation on the way up. We began in lush rain forest with very tall palms then it turned into subtropical plants then to open bushland and a very rocky steep pathway. It was worth the hike and we both had a swim in the ultimate ‘edge’ pool with the most amazing view. We were pretty much the only people there first thing in the morning but soon many more people turned up and that was our cue to move on and hike back down the mountain. We then travelled on our way out of the national park. We dropped into the swamp again as the sun was shining this time and the swamp looked really pretty with its water lilies shining in the sun. Graeme gathered up some more firewood and off we went out of the Litchfield National Park and south towards Katherine. We stopped into Adelaide River for Fuel and there was a little community market in the street. When we parked we found a wallet full of money and every card imaginable, we noticed a police station just down the road so Graeme took it there. He had to knock on the door before someone came. While we were looking at a stall at the market a lady came along asking if anyone had found a wallet. Yay! I was so pleased for her cause I couldn’t imagine loosing mine it would be horrible. We told her we had found it and had given it in to the police station. She was so so very happy she hugged us both – twice and then went to reclaim her purse. We then continued south and arrived at Edith Falls where we are staying for the night. We set up camp, had lunch which was at 3.50 pm!! Then we decided to go check out the falls and waterhole. The closest one was a huge waterhole and smallish falls. We then looked on the map and decided to go for the walk to the Upper Pool. We gathered up our stuff and off we hiked. We decided to do the loop walk so went anti clockwise and up the mountain through some amazing rock formations and bush. We finally arrived at the upper pool which was breathtakingly beautiful. There were only a few other people and Graeme got in the water first. I took several photos of him swimming around and then I decided to make the plunge. It was cold at first but soon got used to it. We swam around for about 40 mins before getting out, getting dressed and continued on the loop back to camp. The view from the other side of loop revealed several other rock pools above the one we were swimming in but you had to go on a much bigger hike to get to them and we didn’t have time. The sun was beginning to set so we had to get down off the mountain before it got too dark. We began making dinner when we got back about 6.40 pm. NOTE: we are in Katherine at the moment to get supplies before heading out to the gorge. will probably be out of range again for a few days. 9.40 am 5th Aug. signing out.
